Turn Regulation Into a Competitive Advantage

Product Compliance Data

European product regulations require transparent, verifiable data. We make your data, systems, and processes robust enough that compliance generates measurable business value.

Product Transparency Is Your Ticket to Market Access

A new foundation for product regulation is emerging in Europe: the Digital Product Passport, Packaging Regulation, Deforestation Regulation, and other frameworks require structured, transparent, and digitally available product and supply chain data. Without this data, companies risk restricted market access, rising compliance costs, and reputational risks in the medium term.

At the same time, transition periods are short, requirements are evolving, and many terms are newly defined in legal language. Companies have to design data models, IT systems, supplier processes, and responsibilities so that they meet both current and future requirements.

Those who prepare systematically now secure clear advantages: faster retail listings, lower compliance costs, reliable sustainability communication, and new marketing and service touchpoints directly at the product.

What Product Compliance Data Really Means

We use Product Compliance Data as an umbrella term for all the requirements arising from new regulatory frameworks that make products transparently data-driven for consumers—from data sources to governance.

  • Are the relevant product and supply chain data already available, and where are they located in your system landscape?
  • How can missing data be generated efficiently or obtained from suppliers and third‑party systems?
  • Is data quality consistently ensured across all systems, updates, and product life cycles?
  • Which business logics do you need to calculate metrics such as repairability or recyclability?
  • Is your system architecture flexible enough to implement new data requirements quickly, securely, and cost‑effectively?
  • Which processes, roles, and technologies ensure that certificates, product passports, and reports are generated reliably?

Typical Hurdles on the Road to Compliance

Implementing the Digital Product Passport, Packaging Regulation, or Deforestation Regulation is complex on a functional, technical, and organizational level. New EU registries, reporting formats, and strict deadlines collide with grown system landscapes, global supply chains, and unclear responsibilities.

Many companies struggle to understand whether and to what extent they are affected, which data they already have, and how new requirements can be integrated into existing processes without exploding costs and never‑ending projects. This is exactly where our Product Compliance Data Framework comes in. It provides clarity, prioritization, and a structured implementation approach.

Five Key Problem Areas

  • shield icon

Supply Chain & Compliance: New EU definitions, registries, and deadlines require clear roles, processes, and documentation.

  • shield icon

Data & IT: Fragmented data, rigid architectures, and missing business logics hinder automated compliance.

  • shield icon

Organization & Costs: Unclear responsibilities, high investments, and missing business cases slow down decisions.

  • shield icon

Traceability & IoT: Complex global value chains make robust traceability and data collection difficult.

  • shield icon

Communication & Marketing: Regulatory requirements are rarely translated directly into customer and brand value.

At a Glance

What is the Digital Product Passport (DPP)?

plus icon
The Digital Product Passport is a standardized digital dataset that consolidates all relevant information about a product across its entire life cycle—from manufacturing and use to disposal or recycling. The DPP is accessed via a technical touchpoint on the product (e.g., QR code, NFC, or RFID) and provides transparency to consumers, authorities, and stakeholders along the supply chain.

What is the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR)?

plus icon
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is an EU regulation that defines uniform requirements for packaging and packaging waste across the EU. Among other things, it requires packaging to become more recyclable, comply with minimum recycled content thresholds, and in some cases provide a digital proof of recyclability directly on the product. The PPWR replaces national rules with EU‑wide harmonized requirements, registries, and reporting formats.

What is the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)?

plus icon
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires companies to prove that certain products and raw materials are not linked to deforestation or forest degradation. To do so, precise geodata on the origin of raw materials must be collected, processed, and provided. This is a complex new data type that places specific demands on IT systems and supply chain transparency.

Why do companies need to act now?

plus icon
Transition periods for the various EU regulations are short. At the same time, new data models, IT systems, and supplier processes must be built or adapted, which requires significant lead time. Missing compliance can lead to restrictions on market access, fines, and reputational damage. Those who act early instead secure competitive advantages such as faster listings, lower compliance costs, and new marketing channels.

Which companies are affected by these regulations?

plus icon
In principle, all companies that manufacture, import, or distribute physical products in the EU are affected. The specific requirements vary depending on the regulation, product category, and role in the value chain. Terms such as “producer” or “manufacturer” are being redefined and can create complex responsibility questions. An individual analysis is therefore the first step.

What does “product compliance data” mean?

plus icon
Product Compliance Data encompasses all requirements arising from the introduction of various EU regulatory frameworks that aim to make products transparently data‑driven for consumers. This includes the structured collection, storage, quality assurance, and provision of all regulatory product and supply chain data.

What data are required for the Digital Product Passport?

plus icon
The DPP requires extensive product data across all life cycle phases, from material and origin data to production data through to information on repairability, recyclability, and disposal. In addition, business logics may be needed to calculate values such as “repairability.” The exact requirements vary by product category and are defined in product‑specific regulations (e.g., ESPR).

What technical foundations do companies need to build?

plus icon
Companies need a flexible and interoperable IT infrastructure capable of processing data across different systems and stakeholders. This includes modern data pipelines, suitable storage structures, and integration of technical touchpoints such as QR codes, NFC, or RFID into physical products. Systems for generating and managing product passports, certificates, and reports must also be implemented.

What is traceability and why is it important?

plus icon
Traceability refers to the ability to track the path of a product or its components along the entire supply chain. It is a core requirement for meeting regulatory obligations such as the Deforestation Regulation (geodata) or the Digital Product Passport (proof of origin). IoT‑based traceability makes it possible to generate data directly from production and provide it in real time.

What organizational changes are required?

plus icon
Companies need to redefine responsibilities for data and processes and adjust cross‑department collaboration. This includes clear accountability for data quality and accuracy, change management, metadata management, and collaboration with suppliers for data provision. Marketing and service use cases should be designed strategically and backed by a solid business case.

What does implementation cost and how can ROI be calculated?

plus icon
Costs vary depending on the starting point, industry, and scope of the regulations involved. Companies must invest in new structures, systems, roles, and processes. However, automation, AI, and high data quality can significantly reduce costs and resource requirements. A phased MVP approach enables rapid implementation with controlled costs. ROI is driven by avoided fines, lower compliance costs, new marketing channels, and competitive advantages.
