Performance monitoring with Managed Stackable and IONOS
MARTIN GmbH, a leading provider of state-of-the-art waste-to-energy solutions, wanted to improve its services by utilizing loT data for plant-operation monitoring and customized data solutions. The existent on-premises data platform was no longer able to meet requirements for increased query load and flexibility. To unlock the potential of data-driven products, the company needed a versatile solution which also addressed concerns regarding data sovereignty.
The biggest challenge for MARTIN was to expand its data capabilities to effectively incorporate machine data. The company needed a solution which could not only handle higher query loads and deliver high performance in response, but also provide the flexibility to examine MARTIN technology as part of modern waste-to-energy solutions. Another key criterion was to achieve and ensure data sovereignty.
MARTIN GmbH had already decided to use the IONOS Cloud in combination with Managed Stackable as a data platform for this project. With the help of an IoT adoption framework developed by b.telligent, the required services and specifications for individual areas were evaluated and an IoT-platform solution was designed.
Each of the following six phases was passed through, and conclusions were drawn for the IoT platform and strategy:
The Stackable data platform offers a powerful solution for seamless registration and management of loT data, enabling advanced services such as plant monitoring and thus paving the way for smarter analytics solutions. With the help of b.telligent's know-how in the development of complex IoT data platforms, challenges in the processing and visualization of time-series data could be mastered and additional KPIs calculated.
The diagram below provides a summary of the services and tools for data processing and visualization. Interaction between the employed services covers the following areas:
Setup
Setting up the IONOS cloud infrastructure and Managed Stackable
Machine data
Connecting machine data using MQTT
Transformation
Harmonization, transformation and data enrichment with Spark and Trino
Airflow data routes
Scheduling of data routes with Airflow
Power BI implementation
Implementation of Power BI reports to obtain insights into the performance of MARTIN technology
Optimized for IoT data platform: Intelligent, scalable architecture for real-time analytics and process optimization.
Flexibility & control: MARTIN retains full data sovereignty through managed, stackable & open source solutions.
Future-proof insights: New digital services and data-driven decisions for waste-to-energy technologies.
The data platform's flexibility has enabled MARTIN to gain insights into its own technologies forming part of modern waste-to-energy processes, which in turn has enabled provision of new services, including digital ones. In addition, introduction of the Stackable data platform for IoT data processing has met the company's exact needs, ensuring that MARTIN maintains control over its data inventory and data sovereignty.
By implementing Managed Stackable and collaborating with b.telligent, MARTIN has not only been able to address immediate data challenges, but also secured future prospects for further growth and innovation in advanced waste-to-energy solutions.
